WHO WE ARE
We are a diverse coalition of CPSD caregivers, educators, and community members representing a broad spectrum of school communities in Cambridge. After successfully joining forces to reclaim the community’s voice and power in the school budget process, we will continue to advocate for a fully funded, high quality public education that meets the needs of all students and their families.
We envision classrooms where:
All students feel a sense of belonging
All students learn how to learn, to think critically, and to be citizens in a democracy
All students have excellent, research-based instruction in math and literacy
All students’ developmental needs for play, connection, and healthy bodies are prioritized
Science, social studies, the arts, and social-emotional learning are all crucial parts of a holistic curriculum
Teachers are able to focus on student learning, rather than an overwhelming volume of test data
Staffing ratios allow for all students’ academic and social-emotional needs to be addressed
We envision schools and districts where:
All spaces are fully staffed and culturally affirming
All spaces serve as community hubs of civic engagement and democratic life
Leaders uplift the expertise of families and educators
Decision making structures prioritize the input of those closest to daily life in classrooms
Comply with DESE guidelines for evaluations of all leaders and administrators.
We envision school committee candidates who:
Use accessible, plain language to communicate regularly with all stakeholders
Commit to full-day classroom visits (1 day at an elementary school, 1 day at an upper school, 1 day at CRLS each year).
Hold office hours for at least two hours a week
Proactively seek out marginalized and “quiet” caregivers to ensure their voices are heard
Welcome the inclusion of a non-voting CEA member
Demonstrate willingness to challenge the City Council in the interest of students
Increase the accessibility of SC meetings:
Use accessible, plain language during meetings
Provide closed captioning
Provide topic time-stamps on video recordings
Create a meeting space that welcomes and integrates the public
The Solidarity Squad is a diverse coalition of 30+ Members and 50+ Supporters who are CPSD caregivers, educators, and community members representing the full spectrum of school communities in Cambridge.
