Superintendent Search

One of the primary responsibilities of a School Committee in Massachusetts is to hire and fire the Superintendent. Following the decision to fire Victoria Greer in May 2024, the Cambridge School Committee was responsible for conducting a nationwide search for the next Superintendent. As of August 2025, their work has lacked transparency and stakeholder engagement; and included only delays and confusion with the community and each other. This process is the job of the School Committee and they are failing spectacularly.

Due to 2025 being an election year, current policy requires that if this particular committee were to do the hiring, the decision would have to be made by November 4 , 2025 (election day). However, it is absolutely within the power of this Committee to stop the process and start from scratch with a realistic timeline that includes robust engagement with all stakeholders.
